The government’s new Levelling Up White Paper has been criticised for not providing sufficient funding to create a healthier and fairer society that needs secure jobs, good pay, decent housing and high-quality education. The white paper aims to spread opportunity more equally across the UK. One of the 12 ‘missions’ is to close the gap in healthy life expectancy between local areas where it is highest and lowest by 2030. The Health Foundation said that significant progress on improving the nation’s health depends upon a fundamental shift from viewing health as just the business of the NHS. Jo Bibby, Director
