Osteoporosis is a common condition and is a cause of significant morbidity and mortality. There are approximately 536,000 fragility fractures in the UK each year and a proportion of these will be commenced on treatment for osteoporosis. During the past decade there have been growing reports of patients who have been treated for osteoporosis later presenting with atypical femoral fractures (AFFs). These patients should be referred for timely imaging.
